TarmacLabs LLC
TarmacLabs is a software solutions company building modern tools for the people who train pilots — freelance CFIs and flight schools. We ship our own products, and we build custom software for partners in the aviation industry. Great software starts with deep domain knowledge, not just good engineering.
Aviation-first
Every feature is designed by someone who has sat in the left seat. We don't guess at pilot workflows — we live them.
No bloat
Purpose-built tools that do one thing well. No upsells, no feature creep, no generic SaaS retrofitted for aviation.
FAA-compliant
Endorsements, currency, and records follow the actual regs — AC 61-65K, 14 CFR Part 61, current ACS task lists.
Built from a spreadsheet that wouldn't scale.
Every freelance CFI I knew was running their entire business out of the same three tools: a paper logbook, a Google Sheet of student progress, and a calendar app that didn't know what an endorsement was.
The endorsement codes from AC 61-65K were copy-pasted line by line. Hours were tallied by hand. A student showed up at the FBO and nobody could find their syllabus state. The same gap existed at every flight school — different vendor, same workaround.
TarmacLabs exists because aviation deserves software that respects the work. Trim handles the freelance CFI. AutoBrief handles the flight school. And when partners ask us to build something else aviation needs — that's the software solutions side of the company.
David Sawires
Commercial Pilot · CFII · Software Engineer
David is a Commercial Pilot, Certified Flight Instructor — Instrument (CFII), and full-stack software engineer. He built TarmacLabs out of a direct frustration with the tools available to CFIs — spreadsheets, paper logbooks, and generic scheduling apps that ignore aviation's unique compliance requirements.
With a background spanning embedded systems, computer vision, machine learning, and production SaaS, David brings both the pilot's perspective and the engineer's precision to every product TarmacLabs ships.
